Lovely cottage with open fire place where you would like to stay longer…Lovely place to stay for as long as you like. Thanks, M & T L, Netherlands
A wonderful quiet and quaint cottage in the heart of Chilham with the most amazing garden and glorious views. CY, UK
Wonderful cottage and surroundings, our 6 week stay was just perfect. Although we still had to go to work, we still managed to walk the area and enjoy the peace and quiet. Many thanks Helen, C & N., UK.
Just a word to say how much we enjoyed our stay in Mistletoe Cottage for the four days at Christmas. What a lovely surprise to find a beautiful decorated tree indoors. We made the most of the area with walks into the village and Godmersham Park. I noticed the names of Helen and Reginald Kirwan in the graveyard and thought of you.
The kitchen delivered an excellent Christmas dinner, the oven efficient and saucepans aplenty. The log fire was just a joy and I enjoyed reading my book on Polar exploration under a new rug with the fire burning brightly. Sunshine lit the garden and kitchen on three of our four days. Thanks to all for providing a setting for lasting memories. All left with the hope that we will return. SC., UK

A gorgeous extended weekend spent in this beautiful cottage.
What a treasure to find. Thank you for the home comforts and we have certainly enjoyed the local countryside. Hearing the owl was a treat! If only we could stay longer. C, N &J, Australia

2018 GUESTS’ FEEDBACK: MISTLETOE & HERON
MISTLETOE COTTAGE, 2018
Mistletoe Cottage is as advertised, an historic wonder, and as such it has some quirks such as low ceilings, small rooms and low water pressure in the shower. That said, it is very well maintained, and had all the comforts you need to settle in for a few days in the countryside. It was clean, warm and inviting when we arrived and check in was very easy. The location is fantastic- we loved our daily little walk through fog in the lane to the village pubs, which provided great atmosphere and food (the Woolpack Inn especially). NG, Australia.
Helen’s place is wonderful if you’re looking for a comfortable apartment with serious country charm. It’s very well equipped with everything you could need for a lovely stay. The situation just outside the beautiful village of Chilham is perfect. MC., Australia
If you enjoy country living, dark and quiet and I stress quiet nights, close to train travel, away from nightmare London traffic and congestion, stay here. DM., USA
Bijzondere plek in prachtige omgeving! ML., Netherlands
We had an absolutely wonderful stay with Helen in Mistletoe Cottage. The cottage was in a stunning 15 century original Manor House with all the quarkiness a period house has. A beautiful old wooden staircase to the bedrooms, original wattle and daub walls, well equipped kitchen, beautifully furnished with very comfortable beds, lovely linen, very clean and plenty of room for travellers with much luggage to spread out. Tea, coffee etc, biscuits and a lovely bunch of flowers were there to welcome us. There was a private garden with outdoor furniture to enjoy the peacefulness of the surrounding countryside and to sit out and enjoy the sunshine. Helen spent time with us chatting about the house, our holiday experiences to date and gave us an insight into Chilham and what to do in the surrounding area. Helen was the most delightful host and we can’t thank her enough for having us to stay in her precious cottage.

We can’t imagine a more ideal place from which to explore the charming village of Chilham, the beautiful Kent Downs, Canterbury, and nearby coastal villages. Helen is an experienced, gracious, communicative host who, together with her housekeeper, Sue, has created a wonderfully comfortable, restful countryside retreat. We stayed in both Mistletoe and Heron Cottages, and each were clean and well-equipped, with great Wifi. Helen provides ample information on things to see and do in the area, as well as places for food shopping and other helpful guidance. For walkers, the North Downs Way is right out the front door, and there are numerous additional footpaths nearby. Thank you, Helen and Sue, for a wonderful stay. We highly recommend your place! J & C., USA
We stayed here for 4 nights and loved every minute! Particularly enjoyed having meals in the serene gardens, sitting by the fire, and just the whole vibe of the place. The only noise you’ll experience is the gentle “baa” of the fields of sheep! The house is just a short walk into Chilham…a perfect village with great pubs/tea/shops, a lovely church, friendly people, and Chilham Castle (visit the gardens if there on a Tuesday!). We also walked to Godmersham Park (on the £10 note with Jane Austen), and ran into horse-jumping along the way. Helen was out of town, yet still was responsive and helpful and Sue, the housekeeper, went out of her way to make L., USA
Beautiful old cottage with so much character. Chilham is a relaxing walk away. The cottage was clean and comfortable and surrounded by beautiful gardens. Everything about it was perfect. K& R., Australia
Brilliant Stay, charming area, W., UK
Mistletoe Cottage is a delightful place to stay. I had a wonderful working holiday in the magical Kent countryside surrounded by rolling hills, fields of lambs and Helen’s beautiful gardens. The cottage had all the amenities I needed including fast, reliable wifi whilst retaining it’s unique Tudor character. There was a multitude of great footpaths in the vicinity for excellent walking and running. Chilham is a beautiful, historic village set around a splendid castle with two very good, friendly pubs. Helen is an amazing host, thoughtful, eloquent and generous but never intrusive. I am looking forward to returning next year. T.C. Canada

Beautiful setting. Such a considerate host. SI, USA
This cottage oozes charm: its beautifully rustic interior and the idyllic setting are picture perfect. The small town of Chilham is a short stroll away and that too is steeped in history and utterly enchanting. We found it a perfect base to discover Kent’s historic sites. D & L, Belgium

A lovely cottage set in a sweet village. the accommodation is excellent very cosy and warm. the Wi-Fi is excellent and the amenities great. cooking is limited but manageable but is made up by the atmosphere of the place. The bathroom was fine and it was very clean. the stairs up to the flat were steep but if wasn’t a hassle. will definitely return and would highly recommend staying there. Helen wasn’t there but she kept in touch and we even got a christmas card! W & C., Germany

Bijzondere plek in prachtige omgeving! [ Special place in beautiful surroundings! ] MK., Netherlands
Staying at Helen’s home in the charming village of Chilham was a wonderful experience that we hope to repeat! She is an experienced host who anticipates and provides for all of her guests’ needs. Her cosy attic space is very comfortable and quiet, with lovely views of her garden and the surrounding countryside. We cooked many meals in the kitchenette. There are ample opportunities for walks in the North Downs and the pubs and shops in the village are a short walk away. Although a car is handy, even without one we were able to get groceries at the Chilham Shop and take buses to Canterbury and some of the coastal towns. We highly recommend Helen’s wonderful home for a great experience of the Kentish country life.
Without a doubt a wonderful place to stay. SF., Norway
Heron cottage completely exceeded our expectations. The cottage was homely and comfortable with the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in! The location is close enough to the village to walk to for dinner, but remote enough that you feel completely away from it all, which is exactly what we were looking for. The picturesque surroundings and walking trails made it the perfect trip and Helen was the perfect host. We’ll most definitely be back! J &R., UK
Staying at Helen’s place will be remembered for a very long time. Communication with her was on a highest level and I had no problem with literally anything. The surrounding area is really beautiful. Perfect for hitchhiking or any outdoor activities. Nearby you can visit historical city of Canterbury with its beautiful history, architecture and you can’t miss the beautiful Gothic Canterbury Cathedral. Additionally Helen’s house holds a title of Grade II Listed Tudor cottage with its own rich history and beautiful architecture. To add to that Helen takes care of her garden which is beautiful and if you like drinking your morning coffee being surrounded by nature this is the place to stay! Overall my stay at the cottage was fabulous and I would totally recommend staying with Helen ! J.K, Germany
Communication was simple and comprehensive details were forwarded before arrival. A key was where it should be and the house was warm with lights on. The host was right next door and yet we had complete privacy. Lovely walks, great pub grub and a wonderful fast internet connection. Thanks Helen! A., UK.
